Our Guides: Makayla Surette

Makayla's a fourth-year student at Boston University studying hospitality and communication, and she will be graduating in May 2025! Having grown up just outside of Boston as a fourth-generation Bostonian, she takes great pride in showing guests around the city, and enjoys seeing Boston through the eyes of people who come from all over the world. In many ways, giving tours is her way of giving back to the city that has given her so many amazing opportunities and memories throughout her life.

Experience & Interests

She loves to tie in personal anecdotes from my childhood into her tours. For example, one of her favorite stories is about the song her grandmother used to sing called “Charlie on the MTA”—which tells the tale of a man who “never returned” and is actually the origin of Boston’s iconic CharlieCard.

Languages she speaks fluenty

She speaks English fluently and is in the process of mastering Spanish. She loves practicing Spanish with her guests!

A fun fact about her

She once met Zendaya and Tom Holland on Newbury Street in the Back Bay.

Favorite Boston landmark or hidden gem

Her favorite Boston landmark is probably the Museum of Fine Arts.
